Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course (Face to Face) (This is a 6-day course, meeting on Mondays and Tuesdays)
April 13 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm PDT
Our hearts suffer when we see others suffer. How do we help? Our health system is based on a curative model, and although pockets of the country are coming up with creative ways to bring health care to our most vulnerable, this is the exception, not the norm. Faith community nurses are increasingly stepping in to bridge that gap.
What is a faith community nurse?
A faith community nurse is not simply a registered nurse who happens to be a member of a faith community. Similar to occupational health nursing, a nursing specialty that brings preventive care and advocacy to employees in a workplace, Faith Community Nursing is a recognized nursing specialty. Faith community nurses take this course, Foundations of Faith Community Nursing – specialized training that provides knowledge and skills that equip the faith community nurse to be a bridge between the health care system and faith community.
The faith community nurse may be paid or unpaid and may serve one faith community, or several, and may limit services to those faith community members or reach out to the larger neighborhood or community. Faith community nurse coordinators are employed by hospitals throughout the country, helping to keep local faith community nurses current and connected, and assisting chaplain services to provide spiritual care support during an acute care stay. Faith community nursing services vary, based on need. Advocacy, health promotion education, blood pressure clinics, chronic disease management, and spiritual care are just a few ways a faith community nurse can serve.
If you have a heart that longs to relieve suffering and a mind for problem solving within your community, this is the course for you.
