Integrating Spirituality in Today’s Healthcare Conference

November 10

$10 – $79

Delivering healing and compassionate care for the whole person (body, mind and spirit) remains the primary mission of medicine and health care. Evidence shows there is a profound relationship between a patient’s spiritual life and their experience at the time of illness. Research demonstrates improved patient outcomes when spirituality is incorporated into medical practice. Many health care providers simply do not have the comfort level, specific tools, and skills needed to incorporate spirituality into the hectic pace of modern-day healthcare delivery.  This full day, regional conference will provide the knowledge, skills and tools for addressing patients’ spiritual needs for best practices in any healthcare setting. Dr. Harold Koenig, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Koenig is one of the most prolific researchers and authors in the Spirituality in Healthcare literature. He will present an overview of the topic and evidence linking spirituality in health.

Other topics include: workshop of using spirituality history assessment tools, lessons learned from COVID-19, patient faith traditions, spirituality across the continuum of care, understanding the healthcare professionals’ own spirituality.

The information and skills provided are applicable in a variety of healthcare delivery settings including but not limited to: hospitals, surgery centers, rehabilitation facilities, outpatient services, hospices, private practice settings, home health settings, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, congregations.

We are very excited about offering this interdisciplinary conference to our university, health system, and surrounding healthcare and clergy communities with the goals being to raise awareness and educate about the importance of spirituality in patient care.

Early registration rate of the conference is $79.  After this date the cost will be $99.

This event is great for health care professionals, students, providers, chaplains and clergy. Continuing Education Units are available for conference attendees.
