The West Virginia University School of Nursing offers a Faith Community Nursing course, in an all online format, for those individuals interested in helping to address the unique needs of faith-based organizations. The professional practice of faith community nursing focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.
The nationally recognized foundations of faith community nursing course is also open to individuals who work as chaplains, pastors, social workers and others. However, only RNs who complete the course can use the title Faith Community Nurse.
School of Nursing faculty members Dr. Angel Smothers, DNP, APRN-BC, and Dr. Lois Harder, PhD, RN, will oversee and facilitate the courses.
Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate of training as a faith community nurse from the Westberg Institute as well as a certificate for continuing education of 32 hours from West Virginia University School of Nursing.
