The West Virginia University School of Nursing offers a Faith Community Nursing course for individuals interested in helping to address the unique needs of faith-based organizations. The professional practice of faith community nursing focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults.

 Has it been more than 5 years since you've attended your preparation course to become an FCN?  This course was designed to update you on the revisions in the Foundations Course as well as include timely information on Trauma-Informed Care; Social Determinants of Health; Substance Misuse and "Beyond the Basics in Intentional Spiritual Care"  The content was based on a survey of FCNs who identified their top priorities for a Refresher Course.  If you don't have the time or financial resources to take the Foundations Course, again, consider this course to renew your knowledge.

15 CE Hours designed to meet the requirements of the Minnesota Board of Nursing.  Please check with your licensing board to determine if these credits apply in your state.

Taught by an experiences nurse educator and faith community nurse, this course is very flexible for the working nurse.  

Trauma has devastating effects on family life, the ability to learn and on health.  Yet, many health care professionals, including FCNs, are unaware of the importance of a trauma-informed approach to those who have experienced trauma.  This series is designed for FCNs, RNs and faith community leaders to help them better understand how to recognize and help those who have suffered all types of trauma.  The sessions occur in January, March, June and October from 9:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Central Time (virtual)

The Foundations for Faith Community Nursing and Health Ministry Course is open to licensed registered nurses (RNs) and the parallel Health Ministry course is for nurses with inactive licenses and faith community lay members. The course is six sessions held on Zoom from 8am – 5pm on the following dates: November 11, 12, 18, 25, December 2, 3, 2024. Cost for the six days of training is $325 with a limited number of scholarships available for residents of Linn, Benton or Lincoln Counties in Oregon. Course cost includes four books and 38+ continuing education contact hours. This course is open to - and welcomes - all faith traditions. Welcome!

This virtual course is conducted over 4 days and includes many speakers, stories and experiences, discussion of integrating faith in the promotion of health, and understanding what it means to provide intentional care of the spirit.
