Spiritual Care Nursing Course
Advanced Education in Spiritual Care Nursing
The Spiritual Care Nursing course provides registered nurses with advanced education and competency development in addressing the spiritual dimension of whole-person, patient-centered care.
Grounded in the Spiritual Care Nursing Model and the nursing process, the course prepares nurses to move beyond basic recognition of spiritual concerns to advanced spiritual nursing assessment, clinical judgment, individualized care planning, evidence-based spiritual nursing interventions, documentation, evaluation of outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The curriculum consists of four modules:
- Philosophy and Foundations of Spiritual Care Nursing
- Whole-Person Spiritual Nursing Assessment and Clinical Judgment
- Evidence-Based Spiritual Nursing Interventions
- Integration, Leadership, and Professional Practice
Throughout the course, nurses develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide ethical, evidence-informed, patient-directed spiritual nursing care while recognizing when consultation or referral to professional chaplaincy or other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team is appropriate.
Successful completion of the course and competency assessment provides recognition of advanced educational preparation in Spiritual Care Nursing and establishes the educational foundation for nurses who may later choose to pursue professional certification as a Certified Spiritual Care Nurse (CSCN).
